Villa Balbianello, now mostly known to be the Lake Como Star Wars Villa, is one of the most spectacular places on Lake Como, an extraordinary marriage of architecture and nature. Overlooking one of the most beautiful spots on the lake, it was originally a monastery. Over the centuries, the villa was expanded several times, becoming the residence of cardinals and noble families. Its last private owner, Count Guido Monzino, heir to a noble family and a celebrated explorer, transformed the house into a treasure trove of memories from his journeys. Today, the villa’s interiors serve as a museum, showcasing souvenirs and curiosities from Monzino’s remarkable explorations.

Today the villa is part of the Italian Environmental Fund; the gardens and the interior of the villa can be visited from 10am to 6pm, every day except Monday and Wednesday. From middle march to the end of October, it normally follows these opening times, while from November to mid-March, days and hours may differ, so it is recommended to check in advance. The ticket to visit the park is 15 Euros, while the combined ticket for the park and the villa is 25 Euros.
Online booking is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended for visiting the villa, as it is often fully booked well in advance.
The garden usually has better availability, and tickets can often be purchased on the spot.
Guests arriving by private boat can normally buy garden tickets on site without issues, especially if visiting in small groups.
The villa can also be rented for private events and weddings.

Villa del Balbianello is located in the central part of Lake Como.
While it is not difficult to reach, it does require a bit of planning, as there is no direct access by public ferry.
If you are traveling by car, the easiest option is to drive to Lenno. From there, the villa can be reached on foot via a scenic path of about 20 minutes, or by shuttle boat, which connects Lenno and the villa approximately every 30 minutes.
If you are staying in Como, Bellagio, Varenna, or other towns around the lake, and have no car, there is no direct public ferry to the villa. You will need to take a ferry to Lenno, and then continue either on foot or by shuttle boat.
Arriving by private boat is not only one of the most romantic ways to experience the villa, but also one of the simplest and most comfortable options, allowing you to approach the villa directly from the water and fully enjoy its spectacular setting.

Villa del Balbianello is famous for its appearances in international films. In Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, it stood in for the stunning lake retreat on Naboo, and you can recognize the stone pier, terraces, and iconic olive tree where Anakin and Padmé share their romantic moments. In James Bond: Casino Royale, the gardens and lakeside lawns were used for key scenes with Bond and Vesper Lynd. Visiting the villa, you can experience these iconic film locations and enjoy the same breathtaking views captured on screen.
